Alberta wanted to be the Queen of Cakes. Every morning she gathered her mixing bowls. She measured and stirred. She baked and frosted.

“Tomorrow is the cake contest,” Alberta clucked to the other chickens. “First prize is a blue ribbon! What should I bake?”

“A daffodil cake,” said the tallest chicken.

“A kite cake,” said the littlest chicken.

“An umbrella cake,” said the speckled chicken.

“Hmmm,” Alberta said. Then she gathered her mixing bowls and went to work.

The judges reviewed each cake. They pinned the blue ribbon on Alberta’s cake!

“How did you decide which cake to bake?” asked her friends.
